Cellular Communications

South Africa has a well established and sophisticated telecoms infrastructure. There are 4 mobile phone operators, utilising the GSM system. If your mobile phone is GSM compatible, all you require is to set up international roaming with your service provider before you leave home. Mobile phones are also available for rental at the airport on arrival.

Landlines

Fixed line telephones are very reliable and are able to dial abroad. The country currently has 2 fixed line operators, Telkom and Neotel, with Telkom being rated as the 28th largest in the world, accounting for about 39% of phone lines on the continent. Most hotels and lodges offer direct dialling from the rooms.

Internet

Internet and WiFi access are available in most parts of the country, especially in urban areas and in most hotels.
